IN THIS LESSON

Understanding how students struggle with skill, knowledge, and motivation provides valuable insights for addressing their learning needs.

Challenges Students Face in Learning

1. Lack of Skill

  • Struggles with the mechanics of learning, such as:

    • Taking effective notes

    • Studying and organizing work

    • Managing time

  • Example: A student may understand a math problem in class but struggle to solve it independently.

2. Lack of Knowledge

  • Gaps in understanding core concepts or making connections between ideas.

  • Example: A student might understand fractions and decimals separately but struggle to relate the two.

3. Lack of Motivation

  • Signs of low motivation:

    • Not completing assignments

    • Disinterest in classroom activities

    • Poor attendance

  • Causes of low motivation:

    • Lack of connection to the subject

    • Content being too easy or too difficult

    • External factors, such as family issues or social pressures
